NOFER INSTITUTE OF OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE, LODZ, POLAND
The Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine is a WHO Collaborating Centre for occupational health. It employs a number of high quality specialists involved in research and training. The primary task of the Institute is to conduct research and development activities and provide expertise on health hazards arising from occupational and environmental exposure to noxious agents. Presently, NIOM provides background research and expertise to the Ministry of Health and serves as an advisory body to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and numerous governmental agencies, local administration, trade unions and industry. It has been involved in post-graduated training in public health and health care management, editorial activities and regulatory activities with respect to occupational safety and health and environmental hazards. It is thanks to the impressive scope and extent to its activities as well as professional qualifications of the staff and technical capacity that NIOM is a unique of its kind institution of occupational health research in Poland and within the Central and Eastern European region.
NIOM takes part in a large number of research and educational European projects.
